Color formatting based on the custom field value

Would it be possible to add the conditional formatting for the scenario when the value of a field - in our given scenario it's the Custom Field labeled "Severity" - is set to Low/Medium/High and subsequently changed?

It would be very helpful in terms of UI to introduce an option that allows to color code the field with a red-amber-green color options when a project has a defined priority / criticality.
