How to restore DB when switching from hosted version to in-house one

Please note that MS SQL database used with a hosted EP account has the '2016' format. 
This means the restoring of an EP database from your hosted trial must be made on MS SQL Server 2016, because attempts to restore it on older SQL server versions will fail. 
Therefore, make sure you are running MS SQL Server 2016 edition first and if not, please upgrade your SQL server or install at least the free MS SQL Server 2016 Express edition.

 

There are two possible methods to run trial data from our server on your self-hosted setup:
Method 1. You have already setup EP on your server to make sure it runs properly, and you need to replace the test database created during the setup with the database of your trial data you receive from us.
Method 2. You have not, yet, setup EP on your server and therefore do not have an existing EP database on your SQL Server.

In both cases you will need to run the latest EP installer to make sure that you are running the latest version of EP and that the database you received from us is working with the latest files setup by the installer. Our newest version is always available at http://www.easyprojects.net/downloads

Please find below the steps to run either of the two variants listed above.

Method 1:
The steps are below, but a quick overview is that you will delete the existing test EP database and restore the trial sent to you. Then re-run the installer to make sure everything hooks up, ok.

Open the MS SQL Server Management Studio, expand 'Databases' tree to see your database(s). Make a note of the database name created during the initial setup of Easy Projects, and then in order to delete an existing database, scroll-down to your Easy Projects database, right-click on it and choose 'Delete'.

In order to restore a database received from us, scroll-up at the top of the Databases tree, right-click on 'Databases' and choose 'Restore Database'.


1. Give a name to the database being restored (a new name or the same name as for the database you have just deleted);
2. Browse for a path where the backup file of the DB is located;
3. Press 'Add' to choose the path;
4. Expand files tree to find your DB backup file;
5. Once DB file is found, press 'OK';
6. Press 'OK' again.

1. Mark 'Database' component and leave 'Transaction Log' unmarked;
2. Press 'OK' to proceed.

Now you are able to check whether your DB was successfully restored.


1) Run the EP auto installer in the 'Upgrade' mode and point it to the restored database.
2) Finish the installation and then open the EP site using the link on the Summary screen of the installer.

Method 2:
1) Restore the EP database from the backup as described above;
2) Run the EP auto installer in the 'Upgrade' mode and point it to the restored database;
3) Finish the installation and then open the EP site using the link on the Summary screen of the installer.
